Hey Ben, I just spent five minutes checking the painting out and I really like it. Having spent a few months in Paris now and visiting the Louvre weekly enables me to comment this piece (lol). Just kidding. I just finished a few bottles with Fred, Giliane and Erin and I feel like telling you how I feel about it. I really like it but would feel kind of cheap keeping at that, so …

The movement and forms reflect an intensive reflexivity; bodies semiologically meshing into one another by a seemingly intangible force. While, in surface, distorting attempts of comprehensive meaning of the self, the faces speak at one another all while attaching importance at the outside world, what lies in front of them; their creators, those who give them life, those who take it and perhaps also the after life. The meaning of life is suggested in the most evasive form; the form which one can only see in the greater deaths of the painting. In essence, this painting asks questions more than answers them: how shoul I live my life and why am I here are good examples of the millennium success of organised religions; cohersive methods of adopting specific attitudes towards oneself and others.

But beyond this murky half truth, the appearance of chaotic experiences in the “cite terrestre”, lies the pivotal figure of it all: Jesus. A historical character admired for centuries as the saviour of human souls from the evil deeds of la “cite terrestre”. Jesus is the central figure of the painting; in many ways of it all. He stands, in human history- pre-modern, modern and post-modern- as a defining figure of human identity. At times a central figure out of pure ignorance, at times the central figure of history as a provider of self-masticated truths, none of us- from the Christian west or the colonised south and east- have managed to live, to exist with out the existence of what was either a charismatic schizophrenic The jazzy and classical melodies of Dave Brubeck, who deems Jesus as the historical character he most admires – as G. W Bush- gazing its way into the shades of light that constitute us all could equalises the pain and pleasure of human experiences, making the interconectiveness of all senses and encounters the true language of the ever so fragile substance of human life.

OK enough for tonight, but seriously, I think its facinating and really look forward to discussing this with you. Feel free to orient me onto the path of wisdom by writing the true creators perception of his work. Also if you ever need to me to take pictures of pieces you know are in Paris, feel free to do so. I can take pictures of most of the art-work in museums here. GTG, its 3 am and working tomorrow.

Best regards, I miss you man
